Instructions for use of the Music Practice Rooms in Kerrey Hall (Available Daily 24/7)

The university has decided as part of the 24/7 pilot project for The University Center to make the 5 music practice rooms on the C2 level of Kerrey Hall accessible to any university student on a 24/7 basis.  Any registered student in good standing with The New School may access these practice rooms via an on line sign up system.  Sign up is available on the Student Housing web Page:  http://www.newschool.edu/student-housing/ Please note that access to the music practice rooms is through the dorm entrance at 65 5th Avenue.  The general rules are as follows:

Each of the 5 music practice rooms will be available for use by New School students for sign up on a 24/7 basis, limited to 2 hour time blocks.  The on line sign up will be accessible only to those registered students in good standing who have an email address ending in @newschool.edu. Sign up is available on the Student Housing web Page:  http://www.newschool.edu/student-housing/

Kerrey Hall resident students will sign up on line as well and can access the practice room space directly from inside the residence.

Non-resident students who sign up for a music practice room will present themselves to the Kerrey Hall security guard at the front desk to 65 5th and hand over their TNS ID card.  The guard will access the on line sign up system to ensure the person is scheduled appropriately, and confirming that, they will be buzzed through the gates and allowed to use elevators in 65 5th Avenue to go down to the C2 level to their practice room. The card will be returned as non resident student members exit the residence following their practice session.

If a student shows up at the guard desk at 65 5th Avenue and is found to not have scheduled a room, the guard will inform them they cannot enter until they sign up using the on line scheduler, which they can do from the University Center at 63 5th Ave. or from a hand held device with internet access.

Students using the practice rooms are limited to the time blocks they sign up for only in the rooms scheduled.  No other areas of the student residence may be accessed by non-residents unless they are the guest of a resident student and accompanied by them.  Non- residents who are found to be in other areas of the Kerrey Hall reserved solely for the resident students will face disciplinary action.

Instructions for Use of Gym and Other Common Spaces (Available Daily 9AM-6PM)

The University has opened some areas of the L2 Level of Kerrey Hall to all members of The New School Campus Community.  The gym, study room, art studio and TV lounge are now open from 9am - 6pm daily.  Registered students in good standing may sign up online to book time in any of the open areas.  Please use the link below and include the requested information.

Please note: Resident students of Kerrey Hall do not need to use the online booking to utilize the amenity space on the L2 level, and the area is open to them 24 hours per day.  The laundry room and mail room are only open to residents of Kerrey Hall.

As a non-resident student who wishes to book time in the L2 level common space that is available, you must enter Kerrey Hall at 65 Fifth Avenue and present your New School Student ID card to the security officer at the front desk to gain access to the L2 Level.  Security will hold your ID at the desk until you leave the facility.

If you are interested in signing up to access the Kerrey Hall gym and there are no available spots below, please send an email to universityhousing@newschool.edu indicating that you'd like access during that specific time period. You may then access the gym by entering at 65 Fifth Avenue and notifying Security that you contacted universityhousing@newschool.edu.

Students using the the gym or other common spaces are limited to the time blocks they sign up for only in the rooms scheduled.  No other areas of the student residence may be accessed by non-residents unless they are the guest of a resident student and accompanied by them.  Non- residents who are found to be in other areas of the Kerrey Hall reserved solely for the resident students will face disciplinary action.
